Attorney Doug Hoak assists clients with estate planning, estate and trust administration, transfer tax and charitable planning, and business succession planning. Doug founded Illumine Legal LLC in 2019 after practicing in a boutique estate planning firm and a multi-disciplinary downtown Denver law firm.
Doug is a member of the Denver Estate Planning Council and has acted on its Board of Directors, has spoken and lectured in the areas of estate planning and administration, and has been recognized by Colorado Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in estate planning and administration in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Doug is originally from Montana, and prior to completing his undergraduate degree, was a Midnight Sun Hotshot with the Alaska Fire Service in Fairbanks, Alaska. As a wildland firefighter, Doug fought fire in two of the largest fire seasons in history to that time. Doug is married and has two children.
His experience includes estate planning using wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments, as well as transfer tax planning involving irrevocable trusts (grantor and non-grantor), annuity trusts, personal residence trusts, trust modification actions, and estate and trust administration. Doug represents both people of average means as well as some of the most affluent families in the nation. He is pleased to work with anyone who values his service.

J. Brad Bergford

Attorney Brad Bergford handles litigation in the areas of First Amendment rights, probate, guardianship and conservatorship matters, employment law, commercial and private contracts, intentional torts, and property law. Brad joined Illumine Legal LLC in 2020 and leads the litigation team. He has handled matters on a variety of topics in Colorado trial courts and has practiced in the Colorado Court of Appeals. He practices in the areas of constitutional law and related federal law in the Federal District Court for the District of Colorado and in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Brad serves as president of the Colorado chapter of National Lawyers Association, as well as president of the Commission for the Protection of Constitutional Rights. Brad is also executive director of Go4Word, an organization that reaches high school students with the hope of Christ through regular fellowship and meals. Brad is an Allied Attorney and a Blackstone Fellow with Alliance Defending Freedom.
Brad is one of the few remaining Colorado natives, having been brought up in Boulder County. He and his wife have four grown children, two of whom are married. Brad and his wife love the Colorado outdoors. Brad loves fishing, hiking, sports of all types, and is an avid singer and pianist.

Jennifer N. Clouse

Attorney Jen Clouse assists clients with tax and estate planning. Jen’s experience in drafting estate plans includes utilizing wills, revocable trusts, and irrevocable trusts. She also assists clients by discussing and drafting other important estate planning related documents, such as powers of attorney, guardianship appointments, marital agreements, and living wills. Jen enjoys helping clients navigate the complexities of thoughtful estate planning and providing them with a peace of mind. She also has experience as a debtor’s bankruptcy attorney for both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings. Jen is licensed to practice law in both Colorado and Wyoming.
Jen enjoys being involved and volunteering her time in the local legal community. She is a member of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law Alumni Council, where she works with fellow alumni in efforts to improve the law school experience for students, provide opportunities for alumni and law students to connect, and find ways to contribute to the advancement of the Colorado legal community. Jen is also a mentor in the University of Denver Sturm College of Law’s Professional Mentoring Program, where she volunteers her time to help law students navigate law school and enter the legal profession.
Jen is originally from New Jersey and is an enthusiastic Philadelphia Eagles fan. She enjoys visiting National Parks and spending time in the mountains with her husband, Nathan, and their dog, Tallie.

Alexander M. Urban

Attorney Alex Urban's practice focuses on estate planning, probate administration, and litigation. Prior to joining Illumine, Alex’s practiced business law at two well-established Denver firms with an emphasis on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate finance. He then made the transition into probate work with a premier boutique firm where he handled a variety of contested estate administration matters, guardianships, conservatorships.
Alex received his Juris Doctorate, with a certification in corporate and commercial law, from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2016. He served as a Senior Staff Editor on the Denver University Law Review and graduated among the top 10% of his class in the Order of the Coif. He also sits on the Board of Directors for TACT Kids, Inc., a local non-profit organization that serves individuals in the autism community by teaching various trades and offering unique programs to support meaningful careers and personal fulfillment.
As a Colorado native, the only time Alex ever lived outside of the state was when he was attending Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. During his time at Benedictine, Alex acted as the Public Relations Officer for the Men’s Rugby Team and served on the Student Government Executive Board. Alex graduated from Benedictine as class valedictorian with a degree in Economics and Finance and delivered a valedictory address that Parade Magazine ranked within the top 10 commencement speeches that year.
Before beginning his legal career, Alex was a heat-treating technician in the oil and petrochemical fields. His wife, Brooke, is the principal of a Catholic school in Denver. Alex and Brooke have two German Shepherd mixes, “Shoebox” and “Moosetracks,” who are currently their pride and joy.

Glenda Huebscher is a certified legal assistant with decades of experience with boutique, medium, and large national law firms. Glenda began her legal career in litigation support for the Department of Justice and the U.S. Army. During that time, she received her legal assistant certification through the Scott A. Hatch Legal Secretary Program. In the ensuing 27 years, Glenda has assisted attorneys practicing in estate planning and estate administration, bankruptcy, corporate law, litigation, and employment law. She is a member of the National Legal Secretaries Association. In her free time, Glenda is active in her local church, and likes to play board games with her family, read, and scrapbook.

Gennifer Westhoff has been a paralegal in Colorado since 2012. She began her career as a paralegal in criminal law working on a Post-Conviction Relief Rule 35c and working on various complex criminal cases with attorneys at Alternate Defense Counsel. Prior to joining the firm, she worked in probate law at the Denver Public Administrator’s office for six years. Gennifer’s focus with the firm is working in the areas of estate and trust administration, conservatorships, 706 and 709 tax preparation and litigation. Gennifer is one of the few remaining Colorado natives, having been brought up on the eastern plains. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, traveling with her family, playing volleyball, and enjoying the Colorado outdoors. She is a proud member of the Rocky Mountain Paralegal Association and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception where she teaches catechism on an as-needed basis.

Courtney J. Martinez

Courtney Martinez graduated with her paralegal degree in May 2021. In 2018 she was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant. In the Marine Corps, she was an administrative specialist at Installation Personnel Administrative Center aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California. This is where Courtney became interested in a career in the legal field due to implementing the Uniform Code of Military Justice in her everyday life. In the Marine Corps Courtney, also received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Courtney is a Colorado native and grew up in the Denver metro area. She enjoys spending her free time with her family, significant other, and dog.
